Introduction

Interconnected Social Systems

My hope throughout this dissertation is not to tighten or ascribe the bounds of any community, but to understand how community radio functions as a set of social connections that is interconnected with other sets of social connections. Earlier on in this introduction, I mentioned several potential models for understanding radio through its internal and external relationships. Here, I briefly name and describe scapes, assemblages, the commons, and complex adaptive systems and consider how each might lend itself to analysis of community radio sociality as inextricable from spatiality and sonicity.
